Works directly with the individuals, families and the communities to improve health, promote healthy behaviors and prevent disease.
Routine duties shall include providing health care services to individuals eligible for services in accordance with the self-governance compact and funding agreement between the Cherokee Nation and United States executed under the authority of the Indian Self-Determination and Education Assistance Act. Evaluates public health nursing & health activities to ensure that quality care is delivered in a safe and efficient manner. Coordinates, designs, and delegates activities and staff functions to meet program priorities. Serves on committees and workgroups to provide essential input in order to monitor, anticipate and respond to public health needs and issues. Develops and revises standard operating procedures for Public Health Nursing services in compliance with accrediting agencies, CN policies and procedures and the Oklahoma State Board of Nursing. Performs supervisory duties in accordance with Human Resource's policies and procedures and any other applicable rules, regulations and guidelines. Monitors health status to identify and solve individual, family and community health problems. Diagnoses and investigates health problems and health hazards in the community. Informs, educates and empowers people about health issues. Mobilizes community partnerships and action to identify and solve health problems. Develops policies and plans that support individual and community health efforts. Enforces laws and regulations that protect health and ensure safety. Links people to needed personal health services and assures the provision of health care when otherwise unavailable. Assures competent public and personal health care workforce. Evaluates effectiveness, accessibility and quality of personal and population-based health services. Researches for new insights and innovative solutions to health problems. Other duties may be assigned.
Manages 1-2 subordinate supervisors who supervise a total of 5 to 20 employees in the Public Health Nursing. Is responsible for the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of these units. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
Associate's degree from two-year college or technical school in Nursing; no substitutions.
At least one year experience in a related field.
An individual should have knowledge of Database software; Inventory software; Project Management software and Word Processing software.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATION
Must be currently licensed by the Oklahoma State Board of Nursing as a Registered Nurse and maintain throughout employment. Must possess a valid driver's license with a driving history verified through a motor vehicle report that meets requirements for Cherokee Nation underwriting rating. Must be currently certified in CPR and maintain throughout employment. Must obtain Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) or Advanced Medical Life Support (AMLS) at supervisor's discretion, certification within one year of employment and maintain throughout employment.
OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Must possess the knowledge of and accept the responsibility to adhere to the Oklahoma Nurse Practice Act.
