Drives bus to transport passengers over specified routes to local or distant points according to time schedules and by performing other related work as required.
Operates a van or bus to transport students to and from school, on field trips, and to appointments or other activities. Regulates heating, lighting, and ventilating systems for passenger comfort. Complies with local traffic regulations. Reports delays or accidents. Inspects bus and checks gas, oil, and water before departure. Makes minor repairs as needed. Maintains appearance of vehicle. Other duties may be assigned.
High school diploma or general education degree (GED). No additional experience required. Must have a valid commercial driver's license with a driving history verified through a motor vehicle report that meets requirements for Cherokee Nation underwriting rating and bus driver's certificate. Must be certified in cardiovascular resuscitation and have taken a defensive driving course.
School bus drivers must have a CDL, Class B, along with a passenger ("P"), school bus ("S") endorsement, and airbrakes.
Work hours vary: 6am to 5 pm split shift.
